Mamelodi Sundowns have switched their focus to the Premier Soccer League title race after bowing out of the CAF Champions League tournament last weekend.
This has now resulted in the league title being the only chance for the former African champions to salvage their season and add silverware to their cabinet. Despite being knocked out of the continental showpiece, SportPesa Clubhouse column ambassador, Doctor Khumalo has praised Pitso Mosimane and his side for their efforts.
“It is unfortunate that Sundowns couldn’t reach the final of the CAF Champions League, but I must give them credit for representing the country so well. They’ve done really well and I still don’t know how they managed to manoeuvre around their hectic schedule. We are still proud of them.”
Another club that has been in celebratory mood after winning the National First Division is Steve Barker’s Stellenbosch side. The club will be competing in the top flight come next season and Khumalo had a few words for the head coach.
“Congratulations to coach Steve Barker and his team for ensuring that Stellenbosch FC get promoted to the Absa Premiership. He’s done it before with Pretoria University and continues to prove himself as one of our best. He continues to do it against all odds. Best coaches always deliver, no matter what happens behind the scenes or the quality of the team at their disposal. We salute Steve and everyone at Stellenbosch and hope they follow the route taken by Highlands Park. It is always good to see our own doing so well. Yes, our foreign counterparts add a lot of value to our league, but it is always great to see our own doing so well.”
In his column this week, Khumalo had a lot to touch on with the PSL coming to an end.
