The debate surrounding world football’s two biggest stars in Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentina’s Lionel Messi continues to make headlines, especially during the FIFA World Cup.
“As a coach, former player and a passionate supporter of the game, I find it very interesting and intriguing when people compare these two players. I believe the two guys come from two completely different backgrounds, the character is not the same and they are different in so many ways.
“When you look at Ronaldo, you’re talking of a hard worker, someone who will show up when needed the most because of his character, someone who can turn the game on its head, someone who is dedicated, a leader, a captain, someone who has a voice even when he is not captaining at club level.
“The beauty about this whole thing is that not just Messi but a player like Robert Lewandowski, who has been doing wonders for Bayern Munich, hasn’t had things go his way but that’s not a reflection of his performance or class. This is not about an individual, especially at this stage of the tournament.”
