In this week’s SportPesa Clubhouse column, ambassador Doctor Khumalo spoke out on various reasons for player acquisitions. The Kaizer Chiefs legend further went on to point out about player’s being on trial and made mention of Thandani Ntshumayelo and his recent stint with Baroka FC that resulted in a short-term deal being signed.
Khumalo has now made mention of acquiring players at this stage of the season, where they bring them in for trials.
“Back to my point about player acquisition. I sometimes wonder what criteria is being used to scout and recruit players. To make things worse, with seven games to go, you find teams saying they have players on trial.
"How can you be assessing a new player at this stage of the season? I’m not trying to be funny or anything like that, but I’m trying to understand the logic behind some of these decisions. If anyone has an explanation, please email me so I can hear you clearly.
“At this stage, one would expect teams to be discussing players they’ve identified for next season and players that should be released or loaned out. To say someone is on trial now is just unbelievable and impossible! This is also the time when you decide on your formations because it is players that determine the formation, not the other way around. It is funny that some guys also believe that player acquisition isn’t done properly in our country.”
16V went on to talk about clubs making wholesome changes that clubs make, only to loan out some of those same players.
