It’s the weekend of derbies in the Premier Soccer League as the KZN derby between Maritzburg United and AmaZulu and the Limpopo derby between Baroka and Polokwane City will take place.
The Team of Choice find themselves still rock bottom of the log standings and will be hoping that their supporters will give them an extra boost at Harry Gwala stadium. Both sides go into this match coming off a loss in their previous encounters, however, Usuthu’s form proves better than their opponents on the day.
SportPesa ambassador, Doctor Khumalo got in on the upcoming matches around the world and gave his predictions. Do you agree with ‘16v’?
Maritzburg United v AmaZulu (Maritzburg win)
This is a Kwa-Zulu Natal derby, with Maritzburg United playing AmaZulu at home, and both teams go into this game on the back of loses against Cape Town City and Orlando Pirates respectively. Looking at AmaZulu, they started like a house on fire in the first 15 minutes or so against Pirates while time was against Maritzburg in their efforts to salvage a point away in the Mother City. If they had another 20 minutes or so, I believe they’d have been able to force a draw or even record a great comeback by winning 4-3 from 1-3 down. I think it is going to be a well-contested game with both teams gunning for maximum points, especially Maritzburg who are at the bottom of the log table. I think AmaZulu have to be careful here because Maritzburg will come guns blazing, especially playing at home. I would give this one to Maritzburg.
Lazio Roma v AS Roma (Lazio win)
You know this is a very tough one because these teams have a tendency of blowing hot and cold, especially playing away from home. I know that Roma is one of the toughest teams to play but, because they are playing away, I will go with Lazio as favourites to win this one.
Baroka FC v Polokwane FC (City win)
A Limpopo derby which, just like the KZN one should be an exciting encounter. Baroka haven’t been at their best when it comes to these kinds of games as they’re yet to beat any of the other two Limpopo teams in the derby. It is for that reason that I believe Polokwane will continue with their dominance in this fixture.
Napoli v Juventus (Draw)
Wow! This is going to be a humdinger of a match with Napoli having proven to be a thorn in the flesh of many teams so far this season. I think both teams will have a serious go at each other and go on to share the spoils. I predict a draw.
