City Pip Sundowns To Bafana Starlet
Cape Town City have completed the signing of Bafana Bafana starlet, Gift Links, beating off competition from Mamelodi Sundowns for his signature.
The 19-year-old impressed for Bafana in the recent COSAFA Cup as he played his role in helping them lift the plate trophy, and his performances for Alassiouty attracted interest in the Egyptian Premier League last season.
Links was left to find a new home when the chairman of the Saudi Sports Authority, Turki Al-Sheikh, bought Alassiouty and changed their name to Pyramids FC, with the squad being told that they were welcome to move on as the new owner spends millions of dollars on players from overseas.
Now, with Links looking to keep up his momentum, it has been confirmed by City that he will be donning their colours in 2018/19. The Siya crew revealed earlier that City was a club keen to bring him on board, and he has now been announced by the club on social media.
Siyavuma Sports Group, the player’s agency, told the Siya crew, “The biggest pull was the fact that Benni knows a top player when sees one. It’s a big move for Gift and it says a lot him that City were prepared to break their transfer record fee for them. It shows (the) intention of (the) club.
"We see this as another stage of his development, he’s still a teenager and will only be 20 when the 2018/19 season finishes. We think he’s got a lot of potential and definitely see him back overseas again in the future.”
