Two Wins: Komphela’s Horror Record v Pirates

Speaking about his record against the Buccaneers after the 3-1 defeat on Saturday afternoon, Komphela told the media, “Before I came here, there are matches I won against Pirates. So I have won many matches against Pirates before.”
Looking back though, the Amakhosi’s head coach has only beaten Pirates on two occasions in the Absa Premiership since 2008, once with Maritzburg United in 2014 and once with Free State Stars three years previously back in 2011.
Komphela did see the Glamour Boys beat their bitter rivals in his first season with Chiefs, but only after a penalty shootout in the Telkom Knockout and three of his eight encounters since joining the club have ended in defeat.
Since the 50-year-old took over as co-head coach of Ea Lla Koto in 2008 and has faced Pirates in 17 league matches, winning just two, with a win ratio of just 11%. Nine of those games have seen his sides – FSS, Platinum Stars, Maritzburg or Chiefs – fail to score.
Do you think Steve Komphela deserves a new contract at Kaizer Chiefs?
