Pirates Defender: We Are Counting On Our Experience
Orlando Pirates Veteran Happy Jele Counting On Derby Experience
Orlando Pirates veteran defender has said that Pirates will be banking on their experience to edge rivals Kaizer Chiefs in Saturday’s Soweto derby.
The 31-year-old is currently the Bucs longest serving player and has featured in more derbies than his teammates. Speaking to the Siya crew, Jele noted that experience could be the differentiating factor between the two Soweto giants on Saturday.
“Form never really plays a big factor in Soweto derbies,” Jele said.
“What counts is the experience. We will be counting on our experience to edge Chiefs. What works in our favour is the fact that we have more experienced players in our team who have played in derbies before.
“Players such as Mpho Makola, Issa Sarr, Thabo Matlaba and I have experience in derbies and the experience will be invaluable come Saturday,” he added.
“I believe we have more derby experienced players heading (in)to this derby. I know that they will be counting on players such as Itumeleng Khune and Bernard Parker but I think we will have the edge.
“We also have experienced (players) such as Thamsanqa Gabuza and even though they’ve never played in Soweto derby before, guys like Musa Nyatama and Thamsanqa Sangweni have vast PSL experience which will count in our favour,” concluded the defender.
Since joining Pirates in 2006 Jele has more than 136 league appearances for the Buccaneers.
