There’s everything to play for in this afternoon’s Soweto Derby, and one player in particular is itching to get going as he looks to score for Kaizer Chiefs once again…
Daniel Cardoso has a very mixed record against the Buccaneers over the course of his career, playing them nine times with Chiefs and his former club, Free State Stars, and winning just twice.
He has, however, scored more goals against Pirates (3) than he has any other team, and has only lost once in the five games that he’s played against them since being an Amakhosi player.
Now, with the league title battle ongoing, the defender says that they need to block out any external pressure and focus on the game itself – he’s hoping for goal number four, too.
Speaking to the club’s official website ahead of the encounter, Cardoso said, “You need a strong mindset for this game… There are more than 85,000 people in the stadium and with millions watching on television. The pressure is already there. If you add more, you get wary and don’t play your best football. If we block everything out and focus at the task at hand, we will play our best. I am confident we will get the job done.
“I always look forward to the Derby and I always like to score in this game… I want to score again, it is my objective to always score for the team. If I can score and help the team win that would be great, but being part of this occasion and doing well for the team is very important.”
Chiefs take on Pirates at 15h30 this afternoon as both sides battle it out for Soweto bragging rights for the last time in 2019/20.
