Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has given a clear indication who will start in goal in today's Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates.
Amakhosi have had Brandon Petersen in between the sticks in all of the matches they have played in 2022, as he slowly works his way to becoming the number one shot-stopper at the club.
Towards the end of last year, Nigerian international Daniel Akpeyi seemed to be the preferred number one, but things have changed this year, as the former Ajax Cape Town and Bidvest Wits goalkeeper has been trusted with the jersey.
Ahead of the derby, it seems clear that Petersen will get the nod ahead of the other three goalkeepers in the team. The game will be played at Orlando Stadium.
"The goalkeeper situation has not changed. We have four goalkeepers who are competing very hard. Two of a younger variety and two of a more experienced variety. The two of the more experienced variety keep pushing everyday. At the moment, Brandon got ahold of the shirt and has had a couple of shutouts and therefore he's looking secure at the moment. But he knows that he is under so much presure from the others and that gives us healthy competition," Baxter said.
