AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu has revealed the pressure from fans which has forced the club to fight for coach Benni McCarthy when he was eyed by SAFA as the next Bafana Bafana coach.
McCarthy's name dominated headlines as he was reportedly in line for the plush job of national team head coach.
Zungu, addressing media in Durban revealed one of the main reasons they did not entertain the federation, due to the pressure from the club's fanbase.
"We were not gonna release Benni McCarthy to Bafana Bafana. Why? Because he is doing a fantastic job. Why must we sacrifice the greatness of AmaZulu FC which is in the rebuild," - Zungu explained.
"We had to make them find someone else. We love coach Benni McCarthy. Our supporters have been talking and writing to us, calling us and saying 'you dare release him'," Zungu added.
"You can laugh at that, but you know you dont want to see angry fans. So when they say you dare take them serious, we are very clear that we don't want to release Benni.
"He is contracted to AmaZulu and in terms of the rule of law, you honour contracts. That goes both ways. He can talk for himself that we support him and the ambitions we have with him. So I'm very glad."
