Chippa United say they are making every effort to help Masibusane Zongo resurrect his career.
Despite his talent, the Mthatha-born midfielder has been in the news for all the wrong reasons since his career began in 2008.
According to the Siya crew sources, the 23-year-old is still in Cape Town and was spotted in Khayelitsha on the weekend, although he is no longer training with the National First Division club. He was released from his contract last month after he failed to pitch up for training, but the club are keeping his clearance while they try to help him revive his career.
The club’s general manager, Wanda Mbenguzana said, “Zongo is no longer playing for us, but we are trying to help him here and there, which is why we haven’t given him his clearance yet. The boy needs help and we have organised for social workers to come and see him. To be honest, I’m not sure about the whole programme because Peter Koutroulis is the one handling that.”
Koutroulis told the crew, “We are still communicating with him. The last time he told us that he was going home in the Eastern Cape to see his mother and he will be back after two or three weeks, but we are still waiting for him to come back to us."
