Former Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns legend, Zane Moosa, has given his input regarding SAFA not renewing their deal with outbound coach Gordon Igesund.
He made mention that the problems Bafana Bafana face is much bigger than what it seems and that a solution is unidentified at this stage.
“I don’t think that’s the solution to our problems, changing coaches every now and then. I think our problem is much bigger than that and I don’t know where the solution lies. I don’t even think anybody knows,” he told the Siya Crew.
“Matatazela” as he was affectionately known also said that Gordon Igesund was unlucky because of the Bafana Bafana job being a complex one.
“I think Gordon can consider himself a bit unlucky in a sense because his mandates were always going to be tough.”
“He was already on the back foot when he took the job, it was not a clean slate. He made some mistakes but he is human. But overall I don’t think it was that bad, maybe at times his selections weren’t spot on but generally I think he got it right,” he said.
Moosa also believes that the misfortunes in the 2014 CHAN tournament hosted by South Africa didn’t do him much favours and that it could have possibly been the epiphany to SAFA.
“He didn’t do too badly but the CHAN tournament was a disaster, I think that probably sealed his fate. The fact that we didn’t even get through the group stages, the writing was on the wall,” he added.
