Orlando Pirates striker, Justin Shonga has revealed why he opted for a move to the Buccaneers over Mamelodi Sundowns.
The 21-year-old striker was previously linked with a move to the Brazilians before putting pen to paper with the Bucs in a twist of events.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma in this week’s edition, Shonga revealed exactly why he turn down a move to the Tshwane giants and instead put pen to paper with Bucs.
“Well, Sundowns did offer me a contract, but it wasn’t decided on at the time. I was not... okay, err... I had not decided that I was ready to join the club,” Shonga told Soccer Laduma.
“Firstly, I had to look at myself and the game-time that I would have had at the team. When I looked at the team, they have quality players and it would have been good for me, you know, to have that challenge.”
“Don’t get me wrong here, Pirates also have that quality. But when I looked at Pirates and the situation where they had lost Tendai Ndoro, I thought to myself, 'Hey, there’s an opportunity for me.' I analysed a lot of things before I decided. Sundowns were interested in having me, but I felt that Pirates was going to be the better option,” he added.
