Soccer Laduma is giving you the opportunity to rate the performances of Bafana's players after their AFCON qualifier against Mauritania on Friday night. One reader’s selection will be featured in the latest edition of Soccer Laduma.
In what was a dead-rubber encounter following the confirmation that South Africa had not qualified for the 2017 AFCON tournament, the match started off cagily, with both teams making few attacking moves in the opening 10 minutes.
Mauritania took a shock lead in the 16th minute, however, thanks to a well-taken finish from Dialo Guideye, after possession was lost in the Bafana midfield.
Bafana Bafana managed to level the score about 10 minutes later, when Hlompho Kekana’s header hit the back of the net from six yards out.
South Africa were then awarded a penalty 10 minutes into the second half, when Camara was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box. However, Thamsanqa Gabuza’s spot-kick was easily saved by goalkeeper Bouzacar.
Shakes Mashaba’s men pressed for a winning goal with Mauritania one man-down, but they could not open up the visitor’s defence and were therefore forced to settle for only a point, with the final score 1–1.
The draw meant Bafana Bafana finish the group in third place behind leaders Cameroon and runners-up Mauritania.
After the one-all draw, we would like you to rate Bafana’s players with a score out of 10.
