Over the past weekend, the ABSA Premiership league matches resumed, after an international break.
In the Mother City, Kaizer Chiefs received a warm welcome as they played away to Cape Town City. The Amakhosi came out guns blazing, getting the lead in the 12th minute, however, Matthew Rusike struck back to level matters. In the second half, Benni McCarthy’s charges let loose and Glamour Boys netted three more goals to walk away with a 4-1 victory. The other afternoon match saw Chippa United host Baroka FC, where the Chilli Boys secured a 1-0 home win. While in the later game, Maritzburg United were hoping to bounce back after a much-needed break against log leaders, Bidvest Wits. Neither side could put the ball into the back of the net, resulting in a 0-0 scoreline after 90 minutes.
Later on Saturday evening, Polokwane City walked away with a 1-0 win against Free State Stars, while Orlando Pirates finally got one over hoodoo team, SuperSport United as the Buccaneers beat Matsatsantsa a Pitori 3-1.
On Sunday, September 16, Bloemfontein Celtic travelled away to Thohoyandou and managed to snatch a 1-0 win against Black Leopards, Highlands Park secured a 2-1 victory over Golden Arrows, while AmaZulu fought back to level a 3-3 score against Mamelodi Sundowns.
