You Choose Your Team Of The Week

Over the past week, the ABSA Premiership league fixtures went into round two, while over the weekend, the MTN8 quarter-finals saw some encounters going down to the wire in a penalty shootout.  
On Tuesday, August 7, Bidvest Wits continued with their form beating Kaizer Chiefs 3-1, while Mamelodi Sundowns secured a 2-0 away win against Polokwane City. 
On Wednesday, August 8, SuperSport United bagged their first three points for the new season with a 1-0 win against AmaZulu, Orlando Pirates travelled to Port Elizabeth where Justin Shonga's free-kick was slotted in by Gaona Modisane to give the Buccaneers an away victory. Free State Stars beat Maritzburg United 2-1, Baroka FC brought Cape Town City back to earth with a 2-1 scoreline, while Bloemfontein Celtic beat Golden Arrows 2-0 in Durban. 
On Thursday, August 8, there was one match which saw the two new PSL contenders for the campaign in Highlands Park and Black Leopards take on each other. With the Lions of the North being the home side they gave it their all, however, the match ended in a 2-all draw. 
Over the weekend, the MTN8 quarter-finals took place. First up, Mamelodi Sundowns hosted Golden Arrows at Loftus Versfeld. Abafana Bes'thende tried to pull the strings in the game, however, the home team proved to be too strong for Clinton Larsen's charges, as the Brazilians progressed to the semi-finals after a 2-0 win. A new look Kaizer Chiefs team without the likes of Siphiwe Tshabalala and Bernard Parker, walked away with a 3-0 victory after dumping Free State Stars out of the competition. Orlando Pirates took on SuperSport United where the match ended extra time locked in a 2-2 draw, The penalty shootout saw the Buccaneers missing two from the spot, sending Matsatsantsa through as they seek to defend their title. 
On Sunday, August 12, Maritzburg United were seeking to find some solace in the cup competition after a bad start in the league. However, it was not meant to be, as Cape Town City walked away with a 1-0 win.
