The ABSA Premiership is back! Over the past weekend, the first round of fixtures took to the stage in what was an exciting start to the 2018/19 season.
Mamelodi Sundowns opened the gates to the new campaign as Pitso Mosimane's men took on Kaizer Chiefs. These two sides both showed that they were after the first three points on offer as Amakhosi took the lead with a goal from right-back Ramahlwe Mphahlele. However, the home side was awarded a penalty to draw level as Ricardo Nascimento ensured that the current title holders walk away with a point.
The 18h00 encounters added more drama as Black Leopards stole three points away from Polokwane City in a 1-0 win. Cape Town City took advantage as they played on their home turf and secured a 2-0 victory against SuperSport United. Bidvest Wits started the campaign on a high note as the Clever Boys thumped Free State Stars 3-0.
The two late matches saw Orlando Pirates held to a 1-all draw against PSL newcomers Highlands Park, while AmaZulu won by a goal-to-nil against Baroka.
On Sunday, August 5, Bloemfontein Celtic beat Chippa United 2-0 and the KZN Derby was owned by Golden Arrows as their two goals secured them three points against Maritzburg United.
