You Choose The Team Of The Week
Soccer Laduma’s ‘Team of the Week’ is a feature in each and every Soccer Laduma edition, highlighting the top performers from the Premier Soccer League clubs.
Selections are based on the performances of players in the past weekend's Round four of Absa Premiership fixtures.
Free State Stars finally earned their first three points of the 2015/16 campaign following their well-executed victory at Goble Park on Saturday afternoon. Ea Lla Koto, who were languishing at the foot of the Absa Premiership standings prior to this match, thrashed Chippa United 3-0, with a brace from Andrea Fileccia and a single strike from Danny Venter handing Ernst Middendorp his first win in charge of the Bethlehem side against his former employers.
Golden Arrows continued their good run since top flight return as they registered a 2-1 win over the inconsistent Mamelodi Sundowns at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday. The hosts took the lead through Mabhuti Khenyeza who slotted home from the penalty spot after Denis Onyango was adjudged to have fouled Bangaly Soumahoro inside the 18 area. Despite going into the break trailing 1-0, The Brazilians started the second stanza like a house on fire and were rewarded as Themba Zwane scored with his first touch after coming on for Cuthbert Malajila. Abafana Bes’thende claimed all the three points after Ryan Chapman made no mistake after being put through by Deon Hotto.
Kaizer Chiefs claimed their second Absa Premiership win with a resounding 4-1 scoreline against SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday night. The Amakhosi had to rally back after the hosts took the lead through Togolese marksman Dove Wome who put Gordon Igesund’s charges in front in the first half. A half time pep talk from Steve Komphela seemed to have sparked life into his players as they replied in quick succession through goals from in-form George Lebese and Ivan Bukenya. ‘Milkshake’ who now jointly leads the PSL goal scorers’ chart with Ajax Cape Town’s Prince Nxumalo with three goals, completed his brace in the 88th minute before skipper Siphiwe Tshabalala put matters to bed with a well taken penalty after Camaldine Abraw was brought down inside the 18-yard box.
Ajax Cape Town leapfrogged Mpumalanga Black Aces into top spot on the PSL standings following their narrow 2-1 win over Polokwane City at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday night. The Urban Warriors got off an amazing start, scoring two goals in the first 10 minutes through Nathan Paulse and Abbubaker Mobara. Rise and Shine did find an equalizer through Jabulani Maluleke but the home side held on to claim their third win in four matches.
Bloemfontein Celtic beat Maritzburg United 2-0 at the Harry Gwala Stadium to send the Team of Choice to the bottom of the Absa Premiership table. Thapelo Morena and Musa Nyatama gave Phunya Sele Sele the three points away from home.
Jomo Cosmos suffered their first loss in the league when they were beaten 2-1 by Platinum Stars at Olen Park on Sunday afternoon. The returning Robert Ng’ambi and ever-improving Eleazer Rodgers gave Dikwena a 2-0 first half lead. Ezenkosi did pull one back later in the game through Cheslyn Jampies but the visitors held on to grab maximum points.
Bidvest Wits secured a narrow 1-0 win over the University of Pretoria at the Tuks Stadium. The only goal of the match came through Bafana Bafana international Jabulani Shongwe in the 51st minute.
The team will always be set up in a standard 4-4-2 formation, selected by Soccer Laduma's team of respected journalists.
