Despite originally thinking that they could land him on a free transfer, it seems that Wits will have to pay a fee for Platinum Stars defender, Vuyo Mere, as they attempt to secure his services.
It was believed that Dikwena’s captain would see his contract expire at the end of this month, with the Clever Boys ready to pounce on the experienced defender.
However, the Siya crew have since been informed that Mere signed a two-year contract with Stars last year, meaning that he still has one year left to run on his current deal in Phokeng.
There have been indications that Wits remain interested in luring the 29-year-old to Braamfontein, although it remains to be seen whether Dikwena will be willing to allow their skipper to leave the club.
Stars have already lost their coach, Cavin Johnson, as well as Thuso Phala and Enocent Mkhabela to SuperSport United, and they will no doubt be eager to keep hold of their captain as they go into their 2013/14 campaign.
