Wits vs Arrows Starting XI

Telkom Knockout Cup

Teams: Wits v Arrows

Date: 04 October 2013

Venue: Bidvest Stadium

Both teams will be coming into this Telkom Knockout cup game on the back of defeats, with Wits losing at home 2-1 to eventual MTN8 winners, Platinum Stars, while Golden Arrows lost their past two league fixtures, most recently a 2-0 away loss to University of Pretoria.

Wits will be hoping to overcome the disappointment of losing in a cup semi-final, and will be more motivated than ever to overcome Arrows in this last 16 tie at Bidvest Stadium.

The Clever Boys reached the quarter-finals of last season’s Telkom Knockout, where they eliminated Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 before falling in penalties loss to Free State Stars.

The hosts will be without their marquee Ethiopian signing Getaneh Kebede who picked up an ankle injury in training this week and was forced to withdraw from the squad.

Arrows were eliminated from the Telkom Knockout in the first round last season, losing 3-1 away to Free State Stars.

Abafana Besithende will be without their captain Thanduyise Khuboni, striker Norman Smith and attacking midfielder Welcome Qalanto.

The Durban side’s best showing in the cup was in 2011/12, when they reached the semi-finals before being defeated by eventual champions Orlando Pirates.

This will be the first time these two teams will come up against one another in an official cup game, with Wits coming out on top in their earlier meeting this season with Johannesburg side winning 1-0 at home in August.

Wits Starting 11: Moeneeb Josephs, Matty Pattison, Sibusiso Vilakazi, Bhongolwethu Jayiya, Papy Faty, Siyabonga Nhlapo, Onismor Bhasera, Benjani Mwaruwari, Kofi Dankwa, Lubelo, Denver Mngonyama

Arrows Starting 11: Cedric Gumede, Mzuvukile Tom, Thembela Sikhakhane, Peter Wadabwa, Mandla Mndunge, Philani Shange, Vuyusile Ntombayithethi, Bongonkosi Ntuli, Sithole, Jabulani Nene, Kgotso Polelo
