Wits Issue Hands-Off Warning Over Key Player

Bidvest Wits have commented on reports that Mamelodi Sundowns are keen on one of the club's key players.

Joint leading goalscorer, Gift Motupa joined the Braamfontein-based side from Chippa United in 2018, on a contract that will see him remain with the Clever Boys until at least June 2022.

The former Orlando Pirates man has been impressive for Gavin Hunt’s side this season and has amassed 12 goals in 25 matches in all competitions, including an impressive six goals in seven CAF Confederation Cup games, for the Clever Boys.

The Siya crew previously revealed that Downs identified the 25-year-old as a January target, however, Bidvest Wits’ Chief Operations Officer, Jonathan Schloss, has poured cold water on the possibility of the player jumping ship, revealing that there has been no offer tabled for Motupa by the Chloorkop outfit.

“Mamelodi Sundowns have never given us an offer for Gift Motupa, whether verbally or written. I do know that they have spoken to the player or his representative as my coach did allude to (it) in a television interview.

“Sundowns have made their interest known to the public and to the player. I know for a fact that Gift is happy at our club, and is a proud Bidvest Wits player,” Schloss said.

Wits will be happy to have their leading goalscorer back in action once the league resumes, having missed the last six matches due to injury.
