ABSA Premiership
Result: Wits 1-0 Ajax CT
Date: 13 September 2013
Venue: Bidvest Stadium
The Clever Boys moved up to fourth place on the Absa Premiership table after a fully deserved 1-0 win over Ajax Cape Town, thanks to a solitary goal by Robin Ngalande.
Ajax Cape Town’s Brandon Petersen was the busiest of the goalkeepers in the first 45 minutes of this Absa Premiership game and made a few good saves to keep his team on level terms.
Wits looked the more likely team to get on the score sheet, creating more chances than the visitors while Ajax were still in search of that all-important first win of the season.
It took Gavin Hunt’s side just five minutes into the second-half to find the breakthrough, Robin Ngalande finishing with his left foot after a cross from Denver Mukamba.
The Urban Warriors pressed forward in search of the equaliser but never looked like troubling the Clever Boys and hardly tested keeper Moeneeb Josephs, who had a relatively quiet evening besides a few long range attempts and a smart save to stop a Lebogang Manyama volley.
In the 66th minute Wits goal scorer Ngalande was replaced by Miguel Timm after Ajax had brought on Keagon Dolly in place of Eleazar Rodgers, they also replaced debutant Stelio Ernesto with Michael Kwong.
Dolly did add a bit of impetus to the left side of the Cape side’s attack, putting in a cross for Dominic Isaacs but he could only shoot straight at Josephs.
It will be back to the drawing board for Muhsin Ertugral and his Urban Warriors as they still have not registered a win this campaign, while Wits' second successive 1-0 victory takes them up to fourth spot on the table.
