Chiefs Star Switches Focus To National Duty

Kaizer Chiefs midfield enforcer Willard Katsande has switched his attention to national team duty ahead of Zimbabwe’s crucial penultimate 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
‘Salt & Vinegar’ headed home to his native country after Amakhosi’s end-of-the-season player awards in order to prepare for their tie against Malawi on Sunday, June 5.
“I am now focused on the preparation for the match,” he told the club’s official website. “It is in our hands to pave the way to Guinea. We are hard at work, pushing, because we all know how important this game is to the nation.”
The Warriors currently top the standings in Group L with eight points from four matches, three points ahead of second-placed Guinea.
Katsande also expressed his gratitude after being named as the club’s most outstanding player for the 2015/16 campaign at the club's recent annual awards ceremony.
“I would like to thank God almighty for these rewards. The feeling is unbelievable. Receiving any award from a big institution as Chiefs will go down as a highlight in my career,“ Katsande added.
The Zimbabwe captain found the back of the net for Chiefs on six occasions this past season, which earned him a total of eight accolades - The Player of the Season, Online Player of the Season, Fans' Player of the Season, and Players' Player of the Season as well as the Player of the Month for February, March, April and May.
