Oupa Manyisa is up there among the best midfielders in the country! His versatility and physical strength are real assets for both Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana. He’s quick over the ground, a solid distributor and has a rocket shot! In this adidas F50 feature we look at why Ace has a role to play for Bafana.
Orlando Pirates are lucky to be blessed with two of the most mobile and physical central midfielders in the PSL. Oupa Manyisa and Andile Jali form a formidable pairing in the centre of the park for Bucs! They’re lightning-quick over the ground and are able to diffuse menacing situations by getting to the breakdown to avert danger.
An added advantage of Manyisa’s game is that he is very good at getting forward and attacking the box. He has a quick turn of pace over five yards and his excellent close control and vision to spot a pass make him a threat to any opposition defence.
His long-range shooting ability is another string to his bow. When he hits that ball, it stays hit! He memorably scored a couple of crackers in the MTN 8 against Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, as Pirates went on to take the crown in 2011.
While he hasn¹t featured prominently in Bafana’s plans just yet, it can only be a matter of time before the diminutive dynamo’s talents are recognised! Ace could have a role to play for Bafana because he’s the perfect prototype of a South African midfielder. He’s light on his feet, thinks quickly under pressure and is able to mix his game up physically when required. Added to the mix he has the ability to score a goal (something Bafana desperately need right now) and it’s easy to see why Ace is so highly regarded.
It’s perhaps why the F50 is a good fit for Manyisa. It’s a boot built for speed and quickness over the ground. It allows Ace to maximize the obvious physical qualities he already has. It gives him that extra edge he needs in those tight spaces in the centre of the park!
