Ekstein's Absence From Chiefs Explained?
Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, Hendrick ‘Pule’ Ekstein, has been left out of the matchday squad for the Amakhosi’s last two games, and it may not be for football reasons.
The 25-year-old played all eight of Chiefs’ opening games of the Absa Premiership season, as well as featuring in the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout, but was left out of the squad completely for the TKO defeat to Free State Stars.
‘Pule’ was then also omitted from the squad for the encounter with Mamelodi Sundowns over the weekend, and it remains to be seen if he will return against SuperSport United this evening.
As reported in this week’s Soccer Laduma, edition 1000, the Siya crew has been informed that the reason for the player’s absence was that he was ‘not in the right frame of mind’ after asking for an improved deal at Naturena.
According to Siya sources, Ekstein – who is in full training at Chiefs – approached the club, after becoming a regular starter under Steve Komphela, to discuss a better contract going forward, however, the club subsequently turned him down.
The crew contacted Chiefs’ communications manager, Vina Maphosa, to shed some light on Ekstein’s situation, however the club opted not to respond to the query.
