Pitso Mosimane and Roger de Sa have both been asked to explain themselves after comments made about PSL officials, but what exactly did the duo say?
The current refereeing situation in South Africa has been widely spoken about in recent months, with several coaches criticising the officials for poor performances that they say are affecting games in the Absa Premiership.
Today it was confirmed that Mosimane and De Sa have been given five working days to respond to the criticisms from the league following their post-match interviews last month.
Speaking after Sundowns’ 1-1 draw with SuperSport United on February 24th, Mosimane said, “You hear what Benni McCarthy is saying and Benni will always be called to disciplinary hearings because that guy in the DC in the PSL offices is waiting to collect the money from the coaches.”
While De Sa, speaking after his side’s loss to Maritzburg United, said, “Before the game starts‚ and you see (which referee) comes out to warm up‚ you’ve got to be prepared for it. Stats will tell you‚ more than anything‚ it is not going to be football‚ it’s going to somebody else who will steal the show.”
Benni McCarthy, Gavin Hunt, Eric Tinkler and others have also criticised referees at different points this season.
