Kaizer Chiefs fans were left shocked by the news that fan favourite, Jimmy Tau, would be leaving the club two weeks ago.
While it has since been revealed that Tau was informed that he was no longer part of Stuart Baxter’s plans, with the head coach currently out of the country, it is in doubt whether that is the whole truth.
Speaking on Metro FM recently, Tau revealed that Baxter had indicated that he’d recommended him for a new deal.
He said, “The coach saw it all. He saw how hard I worked. Stuart Baxter told me he wanted me to stay. He said he had recommended a new contract for me. I thought I had another season.”
Baxter left South Africa earlier this month for an end of season holiday, and just a few days after he left, Tau’s departure was announced.
Due to his holiday, Baxter is unavailable for comment at present, however last year he spoke very highly of the 32-year-old.
In a previous interview Baxter told the Siya crew, “Jimmy’s an excellent guy to have around the place because he’s professional, inquisitive and always a positive influence on the others.”
Now, with Tau’s contract with Chiefs due to expire at the end of the month, he will definitely be moving on from Naturena although it seems that the real reasons for his departure may not be 100% clear.
