Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Bongani Zungu’s imminent departure from the Chloorkop-based outfit means that The Brazilians are on the lookout for his replacement.
'Ben10' played a vital role for Pitso Mosimane's side throughout the season until his injury in January. He played over a 1000 minutes in the Absa Premiership until a shin break brought his campaign to an abrupt halt.
The 23-year-old is set to join Vitoria de Guimaraes in the Portuguese Primeira Liga ahead of the 2016/17 season and, will leave Sundowns at the end of June to join his new side.
With that in mind, there has been plenty of talk regarding who will come in as the long-term replacement for the Bafana Bafana international, with Mosimane stating recently that he is unlikely to look within South Africa for his successor.
A move for Argentine midfielder, Alexis Sebastian Cabrera Coronas, looks unlikely. The club has also already missed out on signing Cole Alexander, who has signed a pre-contract with SuperSport United, so it remains to be seen who could be brought in.
Bidvest Wits’ Sibusiso Vilakazi is a central midfielder that has long been on the wanted list of Mosimane, while young Paseka Sekese, also of Wits, could also be a contender to fill the void left by Zungu’s departure.
Other options for Sundowns, if they choose to look locally, are Siphelele Ntshangase of Black Leopards and Bloemfontein Celtic’s Keagan Buchanan, especially given that his contract will be expiring at the end of the current season.
