Chiefs Players Who Could Shine If Komphela Leaves

Which Kaizer Chiefs Players Would Benefit From A Steve Komphela Exit?

By Soccer Laduma - Mar 07, 2018 01:50 PM
The future of Kaizer Chiefs’ head coach, Steve Komphela, remains unknown as he reaches the end of his contract, but some players could benefit from his departure.
Take a look at some Chiefs/Komphela stats in the gallery above
Komphela has stuck to a relatively tried and tested side this season, with only nine players having played over 1000 minutes in the Absa Premiership throughout the course of the campaign.
The 50-year-old will see his three-year contract at Naturena expire at the end of the 2017/18 season, and with no trophies to his name since his arrival, Komphela’s time at the club could well be up unless they manage to clinch the Nedbank Cup trophy.
Players such as Daniel Cardoso, Philani Zulu, Joseph Molangoane and Siyabonga Ngezana have all become mainstays at the club this season, but which member of the side could be given a fresh start if a new head coach comes in to start from scratch.
Erick Mathoho
The 28-year-old has started just 10 games in the league this season having fallen down the pecking order behind the likes of Cardoso and Teenage Hadebe, and with Chiefs’ defensive record looking good it doesn’t seem like Komphela has much of an intention to change things around.
Lorenzo Gordinho
After playing all but five games in the Absa Premiership in 2016/17, Gordinho was sent out on loan in a shock move back in January. He will want to try and get back in the side when he returns from Bloemfontein Celtic next season.
Keagan Buchanan
In over a season and a half at Chiefs, the 26-year-old has been given just four starts in all competitions by Komphela, with the current head coach clearly not a fan of the former Siwelele midfielder. A new coach would give him a clean slate.
Bhongolethu Jayiya
Jayiya joined from Cape Town City at the start of the season but has played less than 500 minutes as Komphela opted to use other attackers over him. He’ll be itching for his first Amakhosi goal, but he’ll have to wait for it at this rate.
Sibusiso Khumalo
The 28-year-old defender hasn’t played a single game in the league or cup for Chiefs this season and has only 16 appearances in total since his move from SuperSport United. Komphela doesn’t seem to have any intention of moving Zulu out from that left wingback position.
Yusuf Bunting
Despite being promoted to the first team and recently turning 22, Bunting hasn’t even gotten on the bench for the Glamour Boys under Komphela. Chiefs have one of the worst attacking rates in the league, but Bunting is continually left in the stands.
Do you think Komphela should stay or go?

Kaizer Chiefs has lost George Lebese, Siyanda Zulu and Lorenzo Gordinho because of this English speaker, Tower is on the sidelines and a host of other players who deserve a chance, today William Thwala is in Maritzburg. Khompela is good for small teams but not for a major team like Chiefs. His time for him to go is long in the past, Chiefs have endured this far, it's time for him to pack his English and go.

Is not easy to portray football intelligence to players and identify potential from them if you are not well knowledgeable in football. Pirates still recovering from the previous bad poor performance. The same goes to Ajax, Celtics, Supersport because of poor immature coaching and i am afraid will go the same route. It might take us another two seasons to recover from 3 yrs dry season of Komphela

the only problem with mbekiseni is that he wants to be mourinho with his defending philosophy. the chiefs way of defending is to attack with numbers with a little bit of flair, get the fans shouting and singing and you will get results.

A new coach does not mean zebras will do well, zebras are more like Swallows, they are heading straight to the SAB League, gone are those days where Motaung's brown envelopes wins him games, all teams havu sponsors and are owned by powerful businessmen who can match the stingy Motaungs brown envelope anyday

Kompela must stay. Soccer laduma is trying so hard to fire Kompela or to force him to resign. Editor, does you paper have shares @ chiefs? Why so negative report about our black coach? Up the bucs anyway.
