Khabo Zondo’s five-month tenure as head coach of promotion-chasing Royal Eagles might have ended after news filtered through from KZN that he’d been fired.
However, despite an anonymous tip off from an Eagles player, the club’s PRO, Richard Makhoba, has denied that the ex-Lamontville Golden Arrows’ man is facing the exit.
“I’m sitting with Khabo in the office,” he told Soccer Laduma. “I would confirm that story if there was something like that. Right now there’s nothing similar or close to him being fired.”
Back in November, the club used the same tactics to deny the sacking of Vladislav Heric so it’ll be interesting to see what evolves after Thursday afternoon’s training session.
Eagles, who face Cape Town All Stars at Athlone on Saturday, did come a 2-1 cropper at home against Highlands Park in their last match and should Zondo get the boot, his replacement will be the club’s eighth under the Mpisane millionaires.
