What Mamelodi Sundowns Need To Win The League
The race for the Absa Premiership title seems to have intensified after Mamelodi Sundowns dropped points in last night’s Absa Premiership encounter.
Maritzburg United managed to come from behind to secure a point last night. The game against Sundowns ended in a 2-2 draw at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
Last night’s result saw Sundowns reduce their lead at the top of the table to just four points, over second placed Orlando Pirates, with just two games left to play this season.
This means that should Pirates claim maximum points from their upcoming encounters, Sundowns will need at least three points to secure the Absa Premiership title, recording a win either over Ajax Cape Town or Bloemfontein Celtic in the coming days.
The Brazilians will welcome the Urban Warriors to the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, April 28, with Head Coach Muhsin Ertugral side eager for maximum points.
Ajax are yet to win an away fixture this season, showing very poor form on the road, however this might change as the Cape Town-side are currently battling for survival.
The Urban Warriors are currently 15th placed on the league standings and will need to win all their upcoming games while also depending on other teams results, if they are to avoid the relegation play-offs.
It seems that Saturday’s encounter won’t be easy for either side, as both Pitso Mosimane and Ertugral will want to claim maximum points.
On the other side of things, Masandawana will be hoping that Cape Town City will be able to do them a favour and avoid defeat to Pirates on Saturday, so as to possibly hand them the title.
However, should Masandawana secure anything less than a win against Ajax this weekend, while the Bucs secure maximum points against City, the league title race will go right down to the last game of the season on May 12, where Sundowns will face Bloemfontein Celtic in a must-win encounter.
In contrast, if Sundowns secure a win over Ajax, or if Pirates suffer defeat to City on Saturday, the Brazilians will be crowned Absa Premiership champions this weekend.
