Namibian goalkeeper Virgil Vries is on trial at Maritzburg United and is hoping for a return to the PSL, for a second stint. The 23-year-old is familiar with KwaZulu-Natal, having played for Golden Arrows during the 2011/12 season.
The former Eleven Arrows shot-stopper is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in Namibia, although he had a disappointing stay with Abafana Bes’thende during his spell with the club.
Maritzburg chairman Farook Kadodia confirmed with the Siya crew that Vries is being assessed by coach Ernst Middendorp and his technical team.
“He is training with us, that’s all I can tell you at the moment. He is training with us and we haven’t confirmed anything yet,” said Kadodia.
Vries has been doing relatively well as the first-choice goalkeeper of the Namibian national team and is now hoping to work with his countryman, Ronnie Kanalelo, in the goalkeeping department at the Team of Choice.
