New Amakhosi Stopper: Khune Is My Hero!
Virgil Vries Has Spoken About Joining Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs’ latest signing, Virgil Vries, has heaped praise on his new teammate, Itumeleng Khune, calling the Bafana Bafana international a ‘hero’.
Vries joined the Glamour Boys this week on a three-year deal, and he now begins the process of trying to force his way past Khune and into the starting XI.
The 29-year-old played 20 Absa Premiership games for Baroka last season before being released at the end of the season, and he says that he’s looking forward to being in a new environment at Naturena.
He told the club’s official website, “Itumeleng Khune is my hero. I have always been following his career. He’s my role model. It’s a great opportunity to work with him. We will work hard and push each other for the better of the club… It’s like a dream come true.
“Rowen (Fernandez) was the first to kick the ball out with a half-volley. But Itu really mastered it. I am great at doing that half volley as well, I am breathing down Itu’s neck.”
Do you think Vries can get past Khune as Chiefs’ number one?
