Ajax Cape Town midfielder, Nhlanhla Vilakazi, has been snapped up by Maritzburg United on a three-year pre-contract deal and will join his new teammates in July.
Vilakazi’s future has been in the balance for some time, with his contract expiring at the end of the current season and a distinct lack of game time seemingly halting his progress on the field.
The 25-year-old will now get the opportunity to reignite his career in Pietermaritzburg, with a club that has expressed an interest in him for a long time.
The club’s general manager, Quintin Jettoo, told their website, “Nhlanhla is the first signing for Coach Middendorp as he looks to strengthen his squad for the new season.
“The current Ajax Cape Town attacking midfielder is known for his neat passing skills and tracking back when needed and the club is very excited to have secured the player's signature for the next three seasons.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the player and his representatives for their professionalism during the negotiation.”
Vilakazi will remain with The Urban Warriors until his current deal runs out and will then make the move to Maritzburg at the beginning of July.
