National First Division outfit, Uthongathi FC, are in total shock following the sudden death of their popular chairman, Nicholas Mkhize.
As reported earlier by the Siya crew, Mkhize was allegedly gunned down on Monday evening.
Four hours earlier, the Cane Cutters’ boss had met with his head coach, Johnny Ferreira, without any protection.
This news was confirmed by Ferreira. “My chairman has just been shot dead,” he told Soccer Laduma.
“At our meeting, there were no bodyguards. I don’t know why.”
Another club official in mourning said, “I only got home at 01.00 hrs and still can’t sleep.”
There was much joy when the club thrashed Ubuntu Cape Town 3-1 in their last league match, but Saturday’s big KZN derby against Real Kings at the Princess Magogo Stadium, will be tinged with much sadness.
The PSL has also weighed in, sharing condolences.
