Maritzburg United have revealed they have taken a look at a variety of trialists since returning to training in the New Year. The club had earlier confirmed they were looking to strengthen their squad in key positions, with their main priority being a central midfielder and a right winger.
The Team of Choice are currently targeting Wits right winger, Bhongolwethu Jayiya, on a loan deal to fill the spot on the right side of midfield. However, it's unclear whether they will land their man as a number of PSL clubs are also said to be after his services.
It seems the club are clearly keen to bolster their squad as the Steve Komphela-coached side look to move away from the relegation places. Nonetheless, it seems a variety of trialists have been looked at in Pietermaritzburg during January, although it appears the club won't be signing any one of them in this window period.
United's Commercial Manager, Younus Kadodia, confirmed this to the Siya crew, saying, "We have looked at a number of trialists during the last 10 days. We even looked at some options in a friendly game against Golden Arrows last weekend. At the moment we won't be looking to sign anyone until at least the next window period."
Nonetheless, despite no new faces coming into the squad, United coach Komphela is optimistic he can get some good results with the players he's got. He told the club's official website, "“I have worked with several of the players before at club or national team level as well. Guys like Robyn Johannes, Dillon Sheppard, Delron Buckley, Ruben Cloete, I already know. Our position right now is not where we want to be and we are dong everything to ensure we can improve for the second half of the season."
