Maritzburg United have revealed they aren't planning to make any major decisions on players' contracts until sometime later in the season. The Team of Choice currently have a number of higher profile players who are coming to the end of their contracts in June.
These players include the likes of Delron Buckley, Peter Petersen, Dillon Sheppard and Orlando Smeekes. United have made it clear that the club's first order of business is to get clear of relegation trouble. Maritzburg got drawn into trouble at the wrong end of the table following a string of poor results under former coach, Clinton Larsen.
However, the appointment of Steve Komphela has increased optimism that a turnaround is on the cards in 2014. Nonetheless, United confirmed that renewal of player contracts will only likely take place closer to June.
Maritzburg's Commercial Manager, Younus Kadodia, told the Siya crew, "When it comes to the likes of Buckley, Smeekes, Petersen and Sheppard - we'll decide in a couple of months who to keep. We've first got to get the results to get us out of this situation first. When we're more stable we'll make decisions."
