News reaching the Siya crew is that Maritzburg United have made an enquiry about the potential availability of Wits' lightning-fast winger, Bhongolwethu Jayiya. The 23-year-old has made just a handful of appearances for the Students this season, and has perhaps struggled in recent times to match the form he showed in 2010/11 when he scored eight goals in 12 appearances.
Nonetheless, the player clearly possesses plenty of talent and it could be just a matter of time before he begins to find his most destructive form once again. It's thought that regular game time could help the player re-find his best form, and a move to Maritzburg could offer him that incentive as the Team of Choice are said to be searching for a winger.
However, a source at Maritzburg has disclosed that while an enquiry has been made about Jayiya's services, it is still very early days in talks and plenty still needs to be done before any deal could potentially take place.
The source said, "The club have spoken to Wits. It was just a preliminary enquiry and they said they would get back to the club. They're busy with some other deals and they said they would get back to the club after that. Look, it might be nice for Jayiya to go to Maritzburg because he may get more chance to play, you know."
Ajax Cape Town is another PSL team reportedly after Jayiya's services, so it remains to be seen who will lure the Wits player to their stable.
