Amajita were held to a 0-0 draw with Malawi in the first leg of their Africa U-20 Cup of Nations clash at the Moruleng Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The home side took control in the early stages of the encounter, as the likes of Promise Mkhuma and Lyle Foster went close to scoring in the opening 10 minutes.
It was proving to be an open encounter, with both sides looking to get an early goal although Foster squandered another opening after 16 minutes, firing over the crossbar.
Malawai managed to carve out a chance midway through the first half, with Andrew Malisero firing wide with a powerful right-footed effort.
Amajit continued to push for an opening goal as the half went on but they were unable to carve out another opening as the sides went into the break goalless.
The second half started at high pace as the South Africans pushed for goal, with Kobamelo Kodisang seeing his header palmed away by the Malawian goalkeeper.
Senong opted for a double change after the hour mark as Duncan Adonis and Kodisang made way for Khanyisile Mayo and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.
Amajita shot-stopper Khulekani Kubheka, who endured a quiet first half, kept his side in the contest with a fine save with 15 minutes remaining as the visitors upped the tempo.
Neither nation could find a winning goal in the closing stages as they will now head into the second leg with tie evenly poised/
