Not In The Bag For Downs Yet, Arendse On Who Can Disrupt Pitso’s Team In Title Race

Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Tyren Arendse, has picked a team who he thinks can disrupt coach Pitso Mosimane's side in their PSL title defence.

Following their impressive 2-1 win over Maritzburg United last night, the Brazilians returned to the Absa Premiership summit after pushing Orlando Pirates to second place, although they finished the match with 10 players after Uruguayan Gaston Sirino was red carded.

With Downs now level with the other title chasers on 23 matches played, the Chloorkop outfit is at the top of the log with 43 points, while Bucs are in second place, on 40 points on the standings. Cape Town City are third with 39 points, with Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United each on 38 points and in fourth and fifth place respectively on the log.

“I think this year it’s the first time in a very long time that I can say that the race has been so tight. I know that Sundowns won last night and the last time I checked the log I think the top six or seven teams had something like five points difference between them and there’s like seven games to go,” Arendse told the Siya crew.

“It’s very difficult to say but Wits had it in their hands as they were at the top but their last two results let them down, especially the one against Cape Town City and I think there was another from which they didn’t have a good result (against AmaZulu). My money was on them, being from Cape Town and following what Gavin Hunt has done for the team, having previously won the league with the team,” added the midfielder.

“But you can never sort of throw away Sundowns, they have been there before and done that. Some people might say that maybe the Champions Leagues will distract them, but looking at their squad, especially after last night’s performance, it shows you what can happen. So for me, it’s between the two of them (Wits and Sundowns). The winner will come from the two of them,” concluded the ex-Downs star.
