2013 Africa Cup of Nations (Group D)
Teams: Tunisia 1-0 Algeria
Venue: Royal Bafokeng Stadium
Youssef Msakni's last-gasp winner saw Tunisia oust neighbours Algeria 1-0 in their 2013 Africa Cup of Nations opener on Tuesday.
Earlier, Group D rivals Côte d'Ivoire edged Togo 2-1 at the same venue, with Gervinho likewise scoring a late decider after Jonathan Ayite eclipsed Yaya Toure's eighth minute opener for last year's finalists.
The next game was a dour affair, short of goal-mouth action and riddled with fouls.
Algeria, who recently held tournament hosts South Africa in a friendly, nearly scored in the 29th minute, as Islam Slimani headed against the cross bar off Sofiane Feghouli's cross.
At the other end, goalkeeper Rais M'Bolhi kept out a low shot from Saber Khelifa shortly before the recess.
Algeria, ranked second on the continent, threatened again in the 56th minute, as Djamel Mesbah dragged his rasping effort narowly wide of the upright.
Mesbah's teammate Adlane Guedioura also caused alarm when he thundered a long-range strike just over the bar with 20 minutes to go.
Five minutes later, Hamdi Harbaoui had a great chance to break the deadlock but the Tunisian substitute, on for Issam Jemaa, failed to hit the target in a one-on-one situation.
Msakni, however, snatched the points with a superb curling strike in the 90th minute for The Eagles of Carthage.
