Sukazi Takes Major Step In PSL Ambitions

TS Galaxy owner Tim Sukazi has made inroads in his quest to purchase the top flight status of a PSL club, the Siya crew has learnt.

In June, Sukazi, the owner and chairman of the GladAfrica Championship club, had his interest in Bloemfontein Celtic’s top-flight status rebuffed after the club received financial backing from Bloemfontein-born businessman Lebogang Mokoena.

However, that did not deter Sukazi from his desire to own a status in SA football's top tier. Following the rebuff, the Siya crew had been informed that Sukazi and Highlands had opened talks. At the time, the club denied that their Absa Premiership status was actively for sale, but the club’s co-director, Brad Kaftel, informed the Siya crew that they would be open to selling if the right offer came along.

Siya sources subsequently informed the crew that Highlands Park placed a price tag of around R55 million for the club’s PSL franchise, with the Tembisa-based outfit since confirming that they have received a mega offer, although they did not disclose the figure.

The latest news reaching the crew, is that Sukazi and Highlands Park have agreed to a deal in principle for the sale of the club, pending the financial securities. This despite both parties having denied talks in the past.

Indications are that should the financial security be guaranteed, the proposal will be brought to the PSL, who will need to ratify the deal. It is believed that the club could be relocated to Mpumalanga, should the sale be completed.
