In This Week’s Edition Of Soccer Laduma

In anticipation of this week’s 1241st edition of Soccer Laduma, we preview some of the features included. The latest edition will be available at your nearest outlet tomorrow, Wednesday, September 15th.

Happy Jele Interview

They say legends are born, not made, and Jele, having played 400 games for Orlando Pirates, a club he currently captains, can indeed be considered a legendary figure at the Soweto giants. It’s a milestone, considering that many have come and gone over the years. Some among those, it may be argued, were even more talented than him, but because of his dedication to his craft, hard work and the discipline with which he goes about his duties, the Middelburg-born man has lasted the distance. But even then, the journey does not end here, as he still harbours ambitions of winning more trophies for a club he has called ‘home’ for all of 15 years. Does he remember anything about his debut for the Soweto giants? What was so special about the double treble-winning side? How did he bounce back from an injury that threatened his career and kept him on the sidelines for a lengthy period? What advice does he have for youngsters wishing to following in his footsteps? In an incredibly open interview with Soccer Laduma, Jele answers these and other questions. You don’t want to miss it!

Hendrick Ekstein Interview

The lad nicknamed “Pule” is back in South African following two years of plying his trade in Azerbaijan and hopes to continue from where he left off in Mzansi’s topflight in 2019 when he parted ways with Kaizer Chiefs. The midfielder played for two different clubs in Azerbaijan in Sabah FK and FK Sabail and says he was pleased with how he was treated at each of them and has no regrets about his decision to go there, despite a few minor challenges that he had in a foreign country. The Bekkersdal-born player says playing alongside a former Chelsea star at Sabail is the highlight of his career and confirms that the two of them are still in touch. In an interview with Soccer Laduma, Ekstein reveals more about his stay in Azerbaijan, where he was shown a lot of love. The former Amakhosi star and crowd favourite also opens up about his relationship with coach Benni McCarthy, the Durban-based team’s slow start to the 2021/22 season and losing to Nyasa Big Bullets of Malawi in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round match.

Cristiano Ronaldo Poster

With his English Premier League return signed, sealed, all it needed was to be delivered this past weekend, and oh boy, did Cristiano Ronaldo deliver in a sensational performance that saw him bag a brace to help Manchester United record a 4-1 victory over Newcastle United. For a moment, when it was apparent that he would be leaving Juventus, it looked as if he was set for a move to the Red Devils’ sworn adversaries Manchester City, but in a surprising yet not-so-surprising move, he sealed a deal to return to Old Trafford, much to the excitement of the club’s faithful right around the globe. As a fitting tribute to one of the best players of his generation, and to mark the moment of his momentous return to a club that launched his professional career, this week’s edition of Soccer Laduma has a Cristiano Ronaldo poster that is definitely a collector’s item!

Hugo Marques Interview

Marques does not beat about the bush when it comes to his mission at his new side Cape Town City: being the club’s number goalkeeper. The Angolan, who also holds Portuguese citizenship, is making his presence felt at the Citizens as he has played in all the matches so far. In his first interview with Soccer Laduma, we sat down sat down with the well-travelled goalkeeper at the club’s offices in the Mother City to discuss, among other things, his surprise move to the southernmost tip of the continent after playing in Portugal for the better part of his career, as well as his expectations for his maiden DStv Premiership season. Marques also opens up about the sadness of leaving his family in Europe to play in Mzansi for the first time in his career. The shot-stopper also speaks about the chat he had with former teammate Benni McCarthy after making his debut against AmaZulu.

Arsenal Feature

Although the Gunners have made a disappointing start to the Premier League season, the transfer business conducted by the club is worthy of praise! Manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu have identified areas where improvement is needed and have acted by bringing in six unmistakable talents who, altogether, will end up costing the club about £140 million (R2.7 billion) in transfer fees and add-ons, with it being a clear strategy to bring in younger players with massive growth potential. Soccer Laduma’s international team, in partnership with Cadbury, looks at who those players are and what they bring to the team, in this week’s feature.

Revolving Column

This week, we get the thoughts of AmaZulu FC goalkeeper Veli Mothwa on their first leg CAF Champions League preliminary round loss to Nyasa Big Bullets, the slow start to the season, how the new signings are fitting in at the Durban-based outfit, among other topics.

Siyagobhoza

In this week’s edition of the popular Siyagobhoza section, there is news on a Kaizer Chiefs midfielder’s future with the club up in the air, what the latest is with Ricardo Nascimento at Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates to make a decision on a midfielder’s future in the near future, and more…
