In This Week’s Edition Of Soccer Laduma

In anticipation of this week’s 1218th edition of Soccer Laduma, we preview some of the features included. The latest edition will be available at your nearest outlet tomorrow, Wednesday, April 07.

Siphelele Ntshangase Feature

When Ntshangase signed for Kaizer Chiefs in January 2018, there was a lot of excitement and expectations were raised when he promised to supply the ‘champagne passes’ Amakhosi were missing. Ntshangase had shown a lot of promise while he was at Black Leopards and raised a lot of attention when he was called up to Bafana Bafana by Shakes Mashaba while Lidoda Duvha were still campaigning in the National First Division (now GladAfrica Championship). Three years after he was unveiled by the Soweto giants, Ntshangase parted ways with Amakhosi, much to the disappointment of a lot of the Amakhosi faithful who were looking forward to seeing him do what he did when he was at Leopards. The 27-year-old was a fan-favourite and Chiefs supporters kept calling for him to get more game time, but they saw him spending more time in the stands or the bench. He made no progress and, in this feature, Soccer Laduma looks at why he did not make it at Chiefs and why his former coaches at Leopards and Baroka were able to get the best out of him.

Darren Keet Interview

So often, regardless of how meticulously something is planned, life or fate has its own purpose and in the case of Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Darren Keet, it proved to be the case when he helped Belgian outfit OH Leuven gain promotion to the topflight, only to be told that his services were no longer needed. The 31-year-old was also set for a move to the USA, only for those plans to be derailed by the dreaded COVID-19. In his interview with Soccer Laduma, ‘Popeye’ opens up on his next move, whether he will join Gavin Hunt at Kaizer Chiefs, and why he is not overly concerned about losing his place in the national team.

Allan Kateregga Interview

Following a spell with Cape Town City which ended at Maritzburg United in 2019 where he was on loan after struggling for game-time in the Mother City, the Ugandan international midfielder earned an overseas move. The move came as no surprise after the attack-minded player did well in the fight against relegation for the KwaZulu-Natal club. The move to Erbil SC in Iraq came at the back of the dreadlocked player featuring in the historic Uganda Cranes squad that played in the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. What came as a surprise is City’s decision to terminate the player’s contract after his successful loan stint in Pietermaritzburg, and after playing in the AFCON for his national team. The injury he sustained last year led to the Kateregga’s overseas stay short-lived and he is now back in Mzansi and in search of a club after recovering from injury. The Dancing Rasta, as Kateregga is known in football circles, spoke to Soccer Laduma about these and more interesting topics in this interview.

Cheslyn Jampies Interview

After a four-year hiatus, the prodigious left back is back in the big time after signing a three-year deal with Baroka FC halfway through the current campaign! Many will remember him for his spell at Bloemfontein Celtic, after which he disappeared from the topflight. Now the 31-year-old has been handed a golden opportunity to impress and stay longer in the DStv Premiership, where he can finally live up to his potential. In this interview with Soccer Laduma, Jampies opens up on his struggles with his weight, the “Bad Boy” tag placed on him and the regrets he has about choosing Phunya Sele Sele over some of South Africa’s big guns, who had come calling five years ago.

El Clasico Preview

El Clasico is arguably the biggest game in club football each year, apart from the UEFA Champions League final. And even though it has lost some of its shine when Cristiano Ronaldo left Spain to continue his record hunt in Italy, the upcoming clash between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid is one of the biggest in the recent history of their rivalry. Both teams are within touching distance of yet another LaLiga title and the winner of this weekend’s Clasico will surely be regarded as favourites to win the Spanish league after run-away leaders Atletico Madrid have continued to drop points over recent weeks. In this week’s international feature, Soccer Laduma previews the clash between Zinedine Zidane’s LaLiga holders and Ronald Koeman’s transformed Blaugrana, discusses the dangermen as well as secret weapons for both teams, while also diving into the history of the rivalry.

Revolving Column

This week, we hear from former Orlando Pirates and junior international Andile Cele as he speaks passionately about the state of South African football and what he thinks the solutions going forward are.

Siyagobhoza

In this week’s edition of the popular Siyagobhoza section, there is news on a SuperSport United player being offered to Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns’ chase of a GladAfrica Champions star, an Orlando Pirates player against a loan move, and more…
