Latest On PSL Club Boss' 1-Year Ban

Black Leopards chairman David Thidiela is appealing his one-year ban, PSL prosecutor Nande Becker has confirmed to the Siya crew.

The Siya crew revealed three weeks ago that the Lidoda Duvha boss had been hit with a heavy 12-months ban from all football-related activities as well seeing his club fined R1.2 million following a disciplinary hearing.

Thidiela was found guilty of intimidating referee Victor Hlungwani after an Absa Premiership match between Leopards and Bloemfontein Celtic in September.

The panel which forms part of the disciplinary hearing found Thidiela to have made discriminatory remarks, forcing the Human Rights Commission of SA as well as tribal leaders in Limpopo to get involved.

In the ruling, which the Siya crew has seen, the PSL – through its prosecutor – had urged the panel to ban Thidiela for five years from all football activities. However, in the end, the decision was to only deliver a one-year sanction.

The league has yet to announce that the Leopards chairman, who has since lost all his privileges an as executive committee member – has been banned. But Becker confirmed that Thidiela has already appealed.

“There is another matter concerning the letter he wrote to Safa and Fifa (criticising PSL chairman Irvin Khoza) and Mr Thidiela and Black Leopards have asked for a postponement, which will now be on March 19. I have a notification of an appeal on the first one,” said the prosecutor.
