Last Chance Saloon: What’s To Play For In The Absa Premiership?

There's Still A Lot To Play For In The Absa Premiership

By Soccer Laduma - Apr 30, 2018 01:00 PM

Mamelodi Sundowns have already clinched the title, Orlando Pirates have their CAF Champions League spot confirmed and Platinum Stars have been relegated. What is left to play for?

This weekend’s matches saw Masandawana claim the Absa Premiership title for the eighth time as Pitso Mosimane oversaw a 3-1 win over Ajax Cape Town, while the Buccaneers secured their CCL spot with their victory against Bidvest Wits earlier in the week.

Dikwena are already coming to terms with the fact that they will be playing in the National First Division next season regardless of what happens on the final day of the campaign, with Kaizer Chiefs, Maritzburg United, Cape Town City and Free State Stars all securing a spot in next season’s MTN8.

However, there is still plenty of stake on the last day of the season on May 12th, with Ajax, SuperSport United, Polokwane City and Baroka all looking to end on a high by avoiding 15th spot and the relegation playoffs, while Chiefs and Maritzburg battle it out for a place in the next edition of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Ajax know that, due to SuperSport facing Baroka, a win against Chiefs will be enough to secure their place in the top-flight next season, though anything else would condemn them to a place in the playoffs with Jomo Cosmos and either Black Leopards, Real Kings or Witbank Spurs.

On top of that, the final two MTN8 places are also up for grabs, and Golden Arrows and Chippa United will be eager to keep their places and avoid being leapfrogged by the likes of Bloemfontein Celtic, Wits, AmaZulu or Bakgaga.

Who do you think will clinch an MTN8 spot and avoid relegation?

This is a plea to PSL/SAFA or whoever is responsible. It just cant be right that of 16 NFD teams, ONLY 1 gets automatic promotion. No 15 & 16 should be relegated instantly, while 1 & 2 from NFD get promoted. Then No 14 from the PSL can either be in contention with no: 3 from NFD or 3 and 4 in a short league. This insult to the NFD must just stop. Its bringing back our football. As it is PSL teams must just avoid no :16 and u still have a chance at the psl

Skeem SA HDK. I am told on countless occasions by those I am in contact with that only a white coach whether locally or abroad can coach Chiefs. In other words no African coach can manage Chiefs. It may come as judging Chiefs supporters with those I come to contact with daily. If that is not the view of the majority of Chiefs supporters then I apologise.

@Black & Proud : I agree with you, Pitso deserves praise without unnecessary and deprecating comments. As for your part concerning Chiefs, I don't get you , "Chiefs not believing in African coaches - believing in other races as superior than us" , what informs you to say this about Chiefs?

Hail Pitso Mosimane, once again you made African people proud. I am not supporting any PSL team but African excellence. It is tough to be African because you are judged by different standards from other races. What is more hurting is that even some of our African people judge you differently. Stuart Baxter; Gordon Ingesund, Clive Barker and Gavin Hunt were congratulated on their successes but with you we are told you were assisted by Manqoba Mnqithi (who does not have a good track record as a coach and was unemployed when you recruited him ) and Rulani Mokwena ( a novice in professional coaching). As for Chiefs it is sad to say after 24 years of our democracy they are not yet ready to be coached by African coaches because they still believe in other races as superior than us.
