Last Chance Saloon: What’s To Play For In The Absa Premiership?
There's Still A Lot To Play For In The Absa Premiership
Mamelodi Sundowns have already clinched the title, Orlando Pirates have their CAF Champions League spot confirmed and Platinum Stars have been relegated. What is left to play for?
This weekend’s matches saw Masandawana claim the Absa Premiership title for the eighth time as Pitso Mosimane oversaw a 3-1 win over Ajax Cape Town, while the Buccaneers secured their CCL spot with their victory against Bidvest Wits earlier in the week.
Dikwena are already coming to terms with the fact that they will be playing in the National First Division next season regardless of what happens on the final day of the campaign, with Kaizer Chiefs, Maritzburg United, Cape Town City and Free State Stars all securing a spot in next season’s MTN8.
However, there is still plenty of stake on the last day of the season on May 12th, with Ajax, SuperSport United, Polokwane City and Baroka all looking to end on a high by avoiding 15th spot and the relegation playoffs, while Chiefs and Maritzburg battle it out for a place in the next edition of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Ajax know that, due to SuperSport facing Baroka, a win against Chiefs will be enough to secure their place in the top-flight next season, though anything else would condemn them to a place in the playoffs with Jomo Cosmos and either Black Leopards, Real Kings or Witbank Spurs.
On top of that, the final two MTN8 places are also up for grabs, and Golden Arrows and Chippa United will be eager to keep their places and avoid being leapfrogged by the likes of Bloemfontein Celtic, Wits, AmaZulu or Bakgaga.
Who do you think will clinch an MTN8 spot and avoid relegation?
