There is still hope for Willard Katsande’s international career after his national team revealed plans for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Eyebrows had been raised after the Kaizer Chiefs midfield strongman’s name was excluded from the Zimbabwe senior national team provisional squad for their AFCON qualifier against Congo Brazzaville later this month.
However, it has since been confirmed by the Warriors through Zimbabwe’s media that head coach Sunday Chidzambwa can still call up players who have been left out from the latest squad.
Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker, Nyasha Mushekwi, is one of the other experienced stars excluded from Zimbabwe’s latest squad.
As reported by Zimbabwe’s NewsDay, Warriors team manager Wellington Mupandare has said the door is still open for the player.
“People should understand that this squad is for the Congo Brazzaville match, and as for the Afcon finals if we qualify, everyone has a chance (to be selected). There are a lot of things that the technical team considers when picking a squad for a particular match or tournament, and the coach believes that this squad will do the immediate job. There will be changes obviously if we qualify. There could be injuries and dip in form for some players, so changes will be there,” Mupandare has been quoted by NewsDay.
