Giants In For Wits Starlet
There Is Big Interest In Bidvest Wits' Phakamani Mahlambi
As the transfer window draws to a close, two African giants, as well as UEFA Champions League clubs, are believed to be interested in signing Bidvest Wits’ talented attacker, Phakamani Mahlambi.
Mahlambi, who turns 20 next month, is judged to be one of the most exciting prospects in South African football at present and recently returned from a training stint with Portuguese outfit, Vitoria de Guimaraes.
While the teenager impressed in Portugal, the club explained that they would rather him continue his progression at a club where he will be playing more regularly and decided that he would be better off back in Braamfontein.
The Siya crew has learnt from reliable sources that Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly – both CAF Champions League winners – have shown an interest in the Bafana Bafana international, as well as two unknown UCL clubs. At this point, however, it remains to be seen whether any official offer has been put forward.
The crew contacted Glyn Binkin, the player’s representative, who confirmed that there had been various expressions of interest in the player from numerous territories, although wouldn’t divulge any further information. He said, “There is obviously interest both locally and overseas for Phakamani, but I’ve been in this game far too long to comment on things before they’ve been done.”
Mahlambi hasn’t played for Wits since returning from Portugal earlier this month, and there are just two days left of the current transfer window, though it seems unlikely that Wits would be keen to strengthen their title rivals in Pretoria.
