Marumo Gallants have given an update on where they currently stand with striker Tokelo Rantie, who will see his contract expiring this month.
Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City forward Rantie joined Gallants (formerly Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila) at the start of the year on a deal until the rest of the season, with the hope of resurrecting his career.
The 30-year-old forward made 10 appearances this past season, six in the DStv Premiership and four in the Nedbank Cup. He finished the campaign without a goal and just one assist.
Rantie’s career has regressed over the last few years and he has recently struggled with injury.
“Tokelo’s contract is expiring and the last time I spoke to our technical team, they were having some considerations here and there. I would not say, 100 percent, that we are going to have him back in the team,” communications manager Rufus Matsena told the Siya crew.
“But it’s something that is still under discussion. We are weighing options. A team is an investment, and we need people who can play regularly, unlike when you have a player who is not in the field of play most of the time (because of injury). We are weighing options and it will depend on our medical team, together with our technical team.”
