Kaizer Chiefs have announced that their Togolese striker, Camaldine Abraw, will be sidelined for nine months after picking up an injury while on international duty. However, Togo fitness trainer, Riedoh Berdien, has indicated otherwise.
Bobby Motaung recently confirmed that the 25-year-old will play no part in Chiefs' 2016/17 season, due to injury, with the club's official Twitter account tweeting, "Injury Update: Camaldine Abraw is injured and will be out for 9 months."
In this week’s edition, issue 980, Beredien told Soccer Laduma, “Something does not add up."
He went on, “Abraw only played 10 minutes against Zambia and trained the whole week for the Liberia match, but the coach didn’t select him. Two days later, before he departed for SA, the Togo FA and medical team confirmed there were no injuries.
“Our medical team also called me to question how he could be out for nine months when Chiefs hadn’t started their pre-season.”
Chiefs have made wholesale changes to their squad ahead of the season, however, Abraw is still contracted to the Soweto giants. It remains to be seen if the club does clarify the player’s situation in the coming weeks.
